Tasks
Year by year I saw more and more mobile ECG solutions on the world’s biggest healthcare trade show, Medica. However, most companies were manufacturing bulky tablets and handheld devices with an integrated ECG recorder, a monochrome display and a limited system.
Labtech was in no position to offer such a product, and its management wanted to focus on the PC-based ECG system, calling such mobile ECG solutions “just toys”.
As I was a fan of mobile computing, I’ve started Cardiospy Mobile as a home project: moved ECG device handling, recording, analysis (filtering and heart rate detection) into a portable .NET library and quickly built a simple user interface around this library using the .NET Compact Framework for Windows Mobile.
Key achievements
- Proof of concept was implemented in 2 days using Cardiospy PC software code base, .NET Compact Framework for Windows Mobile 6
- Despite management’s concerns, the proof-of-concept grab the attention of the company’s most important distributors in Japan
- Xamarin was launched just in time, Cardiospy Mobile was one of the first commercial Xamarin applications, enabling Labtech to sell the product on Android and iOS platforms, reaching a much wider user base
- Cardiospy Mobile became a flagship product, eventually leading to the exit of Labtech’s founders when it was sold to its Japanese distributor
